Hi, I am looking for some packing help for an upcoming trip to Ecuador. We are on the ground for 17 days and doing allot of travel. We only stay in one place for two nights other than that we are a new destination every night.

We fly into Quito which is just over 9000 feet and travel through the Andes to a volcano at 14,000 feet. Then make our way down to the Amazon rainforest. We then move to a costal beach area and then back to Quito.

Not having allot of outdoor experience I am not sure how to pack for 3 climate zones in such a short span. I understand layers but want to keep my load as light as possible due to the amount of moving. Any tips or suggestions?

What I think so far is
Everything needs to be fast drying.
3 tank tops
3 moisture wicking T's
1 moisture wicking long sleeve
1 Soft shell
2 zip off travel pants
1 Pair of shorts
3 underwear
3 fast dry pair of socks
1 bathing suit
Birkenstocks
Light duty hiking boots

Now does that seem to much? I also have some Camera gear to haul around but am trying to minimize that as well.

What size pack would I need to fit this in? Assuming a pro DSLR and 2-3 lenses.

I think perhaps you could ditch two of the tank tops. You may want to pack an insulated jacket in addition to the soft shell. At 9-14k feet is going to be cold and windy. Maybe you could shed an extra t-shirt. A lot of these wicking clothes don't really absorb a lot of scent. People won't realize you have been wearing 'em for days! grin Least I cannot smell scent on my shirts like I can on regular fabrics. You may want to pack a hat too. Here a way you can calculate temperature: for every 1,000 feet of elevation gain, there is a 3.5 degrees Fahrenheit decrease in temperature. If you're going down the mountain it will increase, obviously. So, long as you know your elevation and its temperature, you can get good idea what the temperature will be as you go up or down. You can buy a tiny temperature gauge to clip onto your pack.

Edit: I forgot, perhaps a base layer for both leg and torso as well for 9-14k feet. I can imagine it still be very cold up there, especially at night or cloudy days with no sun.

Way too much clothes. Triple redundancy is definitly not needed. I would also ditch the Birkenstocks and use some light cheap flip flops.

Is this a backpacking trip, or will you be staying in towns, hotels, etc., along the way and dayhiking to destinations? Your clothing needs will be less for true multi-day backpacking than for "adventure travel," where several changes of clothing might be nice, since you'll be cleaning up at night and want to be presentable in "civilization."
