Dear Backcountry Forum community,

I’m writing to you because we believe we’ve made an app that meets the standards on being above the crowd. I would like to place our new app: ”Locate – A GPS App for Explorers” under your scopes for a review.
The idea behind Locate was borne out of a need, when we searched through the literally dozens of GPS apps while on a hiking trip, and could not find one which had clear, simple & accurate data with a clean interface. All the Apps out there provide either too much information, or they convey it badly, so we wanted to create our own App that showed your Location details to you or your friends better than any other. That is exactly what Locate does: It tells you what you want to hear about where you are.

So, when you are going around without GPS, or you want a quick look at where you are, your altitude, your speed, or send your coordinates to friends; you might find Locate as useful as we did. We have a few promo codes for you to try out the app, and your comments on how to improve Locate would be greatly appreciated and will definitely not fall on deaf ears...

You can learn more from Locate’s Web Site: http://getlocateapp.com/

Below is the App Store link and some promo codes for a free download (each code can be used once).

Locate on the App Store:

Thank you for your consideration, and happy hiking!

Regards,
Hippo Foundry

I'm already reviewing an app for backpackgeartest.org. Conflict of interest to review yours. We aren't supposed to compare - all products are reviewed on their own merits there.

I don't think you looked very hard.

What maps are you using?

Looks like a nice app!

I still don't have an iGizmo, but my wife got an iPhone4 yesterday so if I can pry it from her hands long enough to install it I'll take a look.

I made a web app that will let you send your location to friends in an email, and I like that feature. It won't work well for a lot of areas, but it's handy if you carry your phone anyway.

I'll see if I can download it with my emulator and play with it.

Love the site's homepage design, but I'd like to see more screenshots of the app on the site.

Please clarify something, do those two codes mean that only two users here can download the app?

If so, I'll pass and let someone with a real device use them.

I've been using this app with mixxed results. For one the miles per hour doesn't work. Secondly there is no way to record average speed, miles traveled. The elevation chart is nice but shouldn't be the only feature. Overall disappointed!
