Apparently they wanted the ice climbing to be a little more "liberating"...

Naked ice Climber

They got off with a warning because no one was annoyed by them. Someone has to complain about your nakedness for you to get ticketed...I did not know that.

Not unexpected given that this is the area of S.Dakota (near Sturgis)where the big biker rally happens every year and topless, nakedness is a norm. I sure would hate to fall on ice when naked! Ouch!!

This is the day for posts about the Black Hills. BV is right along the road through SpearFish Canyon, a major tourist thoroughfare in the summer. South Dakotans are normally a pretty discreet bunch. I get out of town when it is Sturgis time - room rates, etc. triple during that period.

I had a cool story but I had to delete it cause maybe this group isn't ready for nude camping/rock climbing - yet.

I think it is pretty bad when adults don't ensure that outdoor activities are family-friendly. Public areas are just that - places anyone can enjoy. If someone doesn't want to be modest, just stay at home or in a private place. Kids have enough to deal with even in a decent world. So there..

My generation was into wild naked parties, body painting, skinny dipping up at the resevoir.. hot tubs etc, so naked camping and climing are just part of it. First off I enjoy solo camping many miles off trail in wilderness at 7-8 thousand feet, I can run around naked if I want to and NEVER see anyone, and I've climbed serious granite walls wearing nothing but my climbing shoes. In fact I took pictures - maybe I should post them? :Climbers are actually know for antics...

I was going to point out that I didn't think they were the stodgy, stiff suited types laugh

Personally, I was just a bit too young for the "Summer of Love" and way too old for "Disco" frown

sk

Hmmm. You know I might have had some tape on my fingers, it was very coarse grained granite and there were cracks, so finger taping would seem reasonable - does that lessen my naked climbing claim? wink...

One of the "things" you have to learn about climbing is to stay on your fingers and toes and NEVER HUG THE ROCK. shocked laugh

and no - climbers do not tend to be either conservative nor overly cautious in nature. I bet he wasn't the first...

Anway here's my philosophy. I've never taken a real fall. So all of the safety gear that I've carried has been not only a waste, but a burden. cool As any ultra lite person will tell you, lighter is safer because you will not be physically hampered by the weight of the gear. Thus I free solo climb with no gear mostly now, with nothing but the shoes, maybe some tape and occasionally some clothing and a power bar. grin

In my avatar on the left, I have a group of slings over my shoulder with a bunch of pieces of aluminum "protection gear" hanging from it and a rope tied to me. I don't carry that stuff now.
Jim

I would like to officially vote against nekkid pictures of Jim on a wall. I get more than too much nekkid dudes when watching Survivorman or Man v Wild.
