Me and my sister are planning to take 2 months this summer and travel around Europe. We have never backpacked before and I'm not sure where to start. Particularly when it comes to gear and what we will need to bring with us. How much clothing to bring, how heavy to make our backpacks. Any tips and advice is greatly appreciated.

There is a big difference between backpacking in the backcountry, which is the focus of this site and budget traveling with a backpack. What exactly are you going to be doing? There are many budget travel sites, www.lonelyplanet.com a book publisher, has travel forums.

I am going to assume you are budget traveling. I was in a luggage store today and saw a travel bag that converts into a backpack, no idea who made it, Eagle Creek maybe. That's the kind of bag I would take-something with wheels as well as straps.

Hello!
One word of advice from a traveller/backpacker/hiker: keep your pack as small as possible (carry-on size)for trains and busses, and as light as possible (can carry it all day).
This is my philosophy (you have no obligation to adhere crazy). I only pack what I could carry if I had TO WALK THERE.
