Freezer Bag Cooking
by Sarah Kirkconnell ("Sarbar" on this forum). She also has a wonderful website, trailcooking.com
, with lots of recipes, food preparation hints, dehydration instructions, etc. Her website is the first place I go when I have questions!
Her method is really rehydrating, not cooking, meals in a freezer bag--i.e. you pour in hot water and let the bag sit inside a cozy until it's ready. Sarah is my heroine, because I hate washing dishes! With her method, the only item needing washing is the spoon! Of course if you prefer to rehydrate your meals in your cooking pot (better for groups), she describes how to do that with each recipe, too.
Your state Agricultural Extension Service is also an excellent source for information on dehydration, although not necessarily as related specifically to backpacking meal preparation. If you have no experience at all with dehydration, I'd start there.
