William,

Take a look at the Beckel Canvas website out of Portland. They make 2 nylon tents- a lean-to for $130 and a tarp tent that is completely enclosed, weighs 1 1/2 lbs. and costs $65.

Thanks.

I was replying to the original poster's interest in a tent. The Eureka is a full 2 layer, totally enclosed tent, very classic, at a reasonably light weight.

The Beckel is a tarp; no floor. For a tarp I'd choose the Integral Designs Sil Shelter at under a pound or, better yet, the zpacks hex tarp at just a few ounces. The zpacks is also available in a fully enclosed version, essentially a single-wall tent, at about 9 ounces. But these are not for people who are still thinking classic "tents."

William, why should the OP buy the Eureka tent when he already owns a 2 lb., 6 oz. tent? He'll have spent $99 for a poorer quality tent that weighs more than the tent he already has!

I don't know; ask him. It's already been suggested that he use what he already has.

The part of the discussion I was responding to was about the Eureka Spitfire. In that context I think the Eureka Ultralight is a better solution for him or anyone else looking at a thread titled "sub $100 solo tent" if he can find one on closeout. A significant step lighter.

The OP didn't specify he wanted the lightest tent - his criteria were "good" and "under $100."

Like most other gear, there's good, cheap, and light - you can pick two, and he did.

I'm not sure of your location, but I've bought 3 tents (two backpacking) at REI garage sales. They're held a few times a year for members. They've all been under 100 with repairs. One needed a pole repaired and one had no issues. I've looked them up and value at around $300 so if you have a little time to spare, you can get an awesome deal!

thanks for the replies

first off i do not need the tent to be super light i can carry a 3-3.5 lb solo tent without issues what i am really looking for is a tent i can take when i go solo that has just enough room for me and some of my gear but not a lot i would preferr freestanding but its not a must price and descent quality are the two most important items so if i can find a descent quality tent within my budget thats what i will buy
has to be a few out there somewhere lol
