I was not sure if I should start a new thread perhaps in the Over the Hill gang? I got that book Camping in Ca by Tom S. I really like it! My father in law has one that's even thicker than mine. I wanted to let folks know that when I started Nick and I lifting weights, he could not do one normal situp without my help. About a week ago we were in my garage and he did ten Army style situps without my help! I was so proud of him. Next week his troop is going to Carr Lake, anyone here ever go there? It looks like a short 1 mile hike in which would be ok for my boy. My wife and I plan on carrying most of our gear. Can anyone tell me what the trail is like? Kind of off topic, but another thing neat about the book by Tom S. is it showed me a lake near my home where we can boat in camp. I own a small 10 foot folding boat. I'm thinking of maybe going in the middle of the week for less skiers and crowds. Thanks for all the tips.

I am glad you like the book. It is very thorough. I've heard there are campgrounds in California that are not listed in his book, but not many. He also has a book on hiking in California. Its also a good book but not nearly as thorough.

I haven't been to Carr Lake, but looking at the Tahoe National Forrest website, I get the feeling that the hike in is on an access road. Best of luck!

Yes, Hiking In Cal that's one of his books my father in law has. I checked out the topo of Carr Lake, there is a road that gets very close to the lake. Hopefully this Tuesday at the meeting I can ask and get a better idea of the trail. Why is it that some guys have a hard time being honest about a trail? Kind of like fisherman who lie about the one that got away? You know the difference between hunters and fisherman? A hunter lies and waits, and fisherman waits and lies.
