I just wanted to report a hiking story of a women who proved she had strong mental and physical skills all along her journey.
Joan Young becames the first woman to hike the entire Noth Country National Scenic Trail which represents 4,600 miles across the country (from New York to North Dakota).

She has showed how much a woman can achieve in her life.
Here is the full story which is pretty interesting. Joan Young Hiking Story

While I would like to say kudos to her for having completed a long trek, just as I would for any person for having completed the trek, it bothers me a little to emphasis she is a woman because I never would have doubted that a woman has the ability to accomplish such a feat. I guess that I had hoped we were beyond that type of observation. (Sorry if this thread is taking a different direction than you had intended.)

Joan is truly a nice person and is certainly not a mad feminist. Her hike was because she enjoys the outdoors and hiking, not to prove that she is a "woman". Her book is a very pleasant read and I would certainly recommended it to anyone who just wants a pleasant hiking tale. I know Joan personally and consider her to be a personal friend and a friend to the hiking community.
