OK--We are just back from an amazing trip. Here's the first report, on our website. But there will be more to come as we include daytrips around Cusco, and also some notes on some of the logistics and isues we faced on the trail.

if you haven't done this trip, I'd strong suggest that you add it to your wish list!

I was just going to comment on your blog, but...
Great stuff! Machu Picchu has been on my list since I was a teen. Your photos DO help show the size of the area. I've poured over the National Geographics my mom and dad had and I never (and probably still don't) realized just how large a center it was. I am glad you got to enjoy it. I will likely NEVER get there with Patty as she get altitude sickness at 7000 feet now. It is not on her list.

For those who have asked for more info or photos...

Here are the links to the two Picasa photo buckets. The first is of Machu Picchu, the second of the rest of our visit to Cusco and the Sacred Valley

https://picasaweb.google.com/balzaccom/MachuPicchu#

https://picasaweb.google.com/balzaccom/Peru2011#

And these two links are to our new webpages. The first is with additional details of our hike to Machu Picchu....and the second is a series of day hikes and visits to the area around Cusco.

Have fun!

"We are just back from an amazing trip."

That is an understatement! I've only had a chance to look at the photos on the picasa site as a slideshow, haven't had time yet to read all of the report, but all the photos are amazing -- that hike was amazing. It'll take days to absorb all this -- thanks for posting it. And you were there on Easter Sunday? A week ago? I am impressed. Great job on the pix and report. Best thing I've ever seen on Machu Picchu.

What a trip!

Thanks Kevon!

It WAS amazing...and we really just happened to be there on Easter. But that gave a little more excitement and interest to the whole trip--incuidng our time in Cusco, where there were religious processions as well.
