I recently got a Garmin Dakota 20 GPS unit and am looking at getting the map software to put on it. I am not good with the GPS yes and am not sure what i should be looking for in the software. Can anyone please throw in some advice, any information is apprciated!

Probably depends on what you are looking for. I have a GPS 76 I got used. Came with a street map and I bought another chip for it so I can load up topos. I got some free topo maps here-

I'm sure there are others, but these two should be a good place to start. GPS depot has some good forums and helpful posters as well. I'm a GPS newbie too, so they were helpful. You can buy commercial maps, but they tend to be pretty expensive.

Go to http://www.garmin.com and find their "BaseCamp" software. I'm pretty sure you can use this to purchase, install, and register maps from Garmin.
