I would still be using my Kelty for just those sort of awkward loads if it hadn't grown legs and walked away a few years ago.

I use mine for things that have legs and won't walk away on their own.. although I usually cut the legs off first wink

Our usages are pretty close. My most recent frame pack jobs have been paleontological specimens (mammoth tusks and other various parts). Not much meat and they don't even work well for soup bones.

A very difficult undertaking. Requires protracted boiling and even then there is a musty, stale aftertaste. Probably exceeded the "best if used by" date....

Especially snipe wink

I remember that storybook from when I was a kid. I really liked it, even then. Might have to try that concept next time I'm with a group - or just hanging out with the granddaughters. (They're still young enough that they think grandpa knows some neat stuff. Of course, the oldest is almost 8, so she'll soon just think I'm a bit weird, I think.) Thanks for a great memory.

Looking through some older posts I got a great idea from wandering D; remove the pack bag from the external frame and attach an internal pack to the frame. Hey great, get the benefits of the external frame, (cooler, more comfort) using the benefits of my Vapor trail. Since it has no lid I can last things to the top of the frame.
