I remember the one time I picked up a tick that went icky on me, and I felt like death warmed over I ran to the doctor, whose answer was "hmm.. well, if you have it your initial symptoms would be what you're feeling - so we give you this (some antibiotic)" I know he knew (as did I) that there was an excellent chance it wasn't, but just to be safe we did the initial antibiotic course anyway, since apparantly if you wait till later is when it takes a long painful time to get rid of it.
Obviously, he got it from ticks, so how did the cat get it? Also, is repelant like Deet effective against ticks or will they just crawl on that stuff and still bite?

DEET, sprayed on your skin, will repel ticks from biting. It won't even stop them from crawling on you though.
The important thing with ticks is to always check for them and get them off asap. The sooner the better. My advice is to double check every itch to see if it's a tick that's causing it and shower and scrub down good every time you come in from being out when ticks are thick.
Also, since Earthing is such a salty old dog I think we should get him one of these earrings.
Wasn't Earthling the one who said to remove ticks with a loofah? I'm just thinking maybe we should reconsider that bit of advice. Jim Rub some possum fat on it.

Ha, Ha you guys, yeah Jim I use a loofa in the shower because I'm lonely No, it really does get the ticks off because it's abrasive. Only thing is somehow I missed the actual spot where this tick was because it was up higher where the loofa did not get apparently. i am a wreck with the sympoms just look at how crappy my typing gotten. ok stil better then most lazy typers but not my best.
do not get lyme this sucks, no, really sucks seriously check yer selves everyday in the field. heck, I now carry one in my wallet in order to show folks just how small they are. ok, im lacking in friends .....take it away Jim, Bob, et al

Bob, yessiree! Nekked through the briars and catsclaw The meds have gotten me alsmost sicker than the disease itself. Worst thing I've ever dealt with in my whole life as far as illness goes. BEWARE THE TICK! I fear ticks more than bears now, and though my 'fear' of bears was more along the lines of respect; I fear ticks. It is the plague of this century, widespread, easily contracted and latent to diagnose
Next up is a trip to the hospital where they want to put the Earthling into a hyperbaric chamber for a few days I'm a bit claustrophobic so don't know if I'll go for it (unless they give me some ice cream or something ).
I now know more than I ever wanted to know regarding Lyme disease, if you have questions feel free to start a thread or ask me in a PM. I won't mince words about this , oh, you folks already noticed that The new meds make me just as sick but it alleviated some of the arthritis in my hands so I can type and participate here That's good or bad depending upon how you read my posts If I get out of hand the moderators can contact my doctor and have my meds switched back on me
