Even the best of us have trying times in getting a campfire to start. I've been carrying and using a 7" piece of aluminum arrow shaft for my 'Fire Straw' probably 30 years now...can't recall, that's how long it's been in my pack. It'll never burn like plastic tubing; you can use it to get, abliet, unfiltered, water from seeps or cracks when needed; and it's light. Works as a fire poker too if you are like me and just make an Indian Fire (small campfire not a blaze). Just remember not to inhale

Could probably use it as a cigarette holder. Suppose an aluminum tent pole section wold work too. Jim

could but then wouldnt the rubber bungie holding them together burn jim.
i have used my fire straw to get water as a basic filter in the past for whatever reason i needed to use it as such. i placed some campfire charcoal in one end, just shoved some in, followed by a piece of cotton ball to hold it in. flip around put a tbspoon of sand in and cottom ball in this end. then when need the water just sip from the sharcoal end with the cotton ball pushed in. takes some fiddling with but works if there is enough water flow. allow the water to flow through and drink from the end like a water spigot. not going to purify water but rather clean the bigger crap out. when done just plull out the cooton and shale it clear to use at your fire. if something ssticks just use one of the bike spokes from your grill to push it out one end.

Funny Paul, maybe I could drink it with my versatile FireStraw Yeah, it works for fire starting, drinking from seeps, drinking from nalgenes, drinking from a stirred drink, not shaken , extra tent stake, tent pole repair, on and on and on for a simple little device
