Hi.
What's the best way to clean dried bear spray from a backpack? Or will it already be deactivated (for lack of a better term) next time I go out?
My canister discharged last Friday in Banff NP due to my own stupidity, of course.

If it's water-soluble then you can just soak it away, but I don't know whether that's true of capsaicin. Maybe try immersing it in detergent and giving it a good rinse.

I would want it gone to prevent the outside chance of getting it on my fingers and then inadvertently touching my eye or nose. Yeouch!

Good luck!

Eating peppers tells me that whole milk is good at neutralizing capsaicin. It may sound weird but I would think about soaking it in whole milk for 30 minutes and then cleaning thoroughly with an appropriate cleaning agent for the fabric. I definitely agree with Rick that it probably isn't a good idea to leave it and hope for the best.
