I'm considering getting a pair of Saucony Grid Excursion TR 4 trail running shoes for day hikes (not backpacking). Do you have any input about them?

No experience with this brand, but you can read reviews on the online shoe retailer sites. The most important thing is that they fit and support your feet! If you have access to a really good running shoe store, that would be the place to start.

I use trail runners for backpacking as well as dayhiking; I've found (as a recent convert) that the increased foot support and anti-pronation footbed make my ankles far less likely to turn than any boots ever did. The trail runners are a lot lighter and more comfortable, too!

Cool. Thank you for the input.

Wish I had more to offer, but since nobody else responded, I figured I'd at least indicate ways to research. Try googling, too--you may luck out on running magazine reviews, too.
