Superior Hiking Trail (SHT)

Superior Hiking Trail (SHT) - 07/02/12 11:12 PM

Hi guys! I am wondering if anyone here has done the SHT in Minnesota and could give me a bit of info, or if anyone knows where to find good info (I would really like some first hand accounts, and I've already checked out the SHTA site) I'd appreciate that too! My questions are mostly about length of the trip (not in miles but in days), resupply points, difficulty, best season to hike it, specific gear must-haves (besides the usual), etc. I have done the JMT, and I feel like the SHT while maybe not EASY would be easier than the JMT simply bc of the lack of elevation change and altitude that the JMT has. I see there is a shuttle for one-way thru-hikers...super convenient!

Thanks in advance!

Join the Yahoo "hiker" group. That is devoted to the SHT and there are lots of trip reports and there is a spreadsheet in the files section showing mileage, access points, restaurants and grocery stores near the trail etc.

I hiked it and averaged 10 to 12 miles per day going old and slow but a lot of people do 18-20 miles per day. Interesting trail but not a remote wilderness experience. I recommend that you give it a try.
