Suggestions for easy 4-5 night backpack trip in SE - 03/01/19 06:11 PM

Hi,

I am a senior looking for a relatively easy (not TOO much elevation change) 4-5 night backpacking trip in the SE states for later this spring.

Why the Southeast? Warmer weather than where I live in Virginia.

Thinking about mid to late March. I have gear for nights in the 30s.

Have been looking at Ocala National Forest, but I have heard most of the area is now closed to the public?

Hoping someone out there has a suggestion!

Cheers - jdballou

I don't have experience with the SE, but if you'd be willing to try AR, mid March would be a good time to section hike part of the Ouachita Trail (pronounced WASH-i-tah). That's assuming we're not in the middle of another polar vortex event. If you want easy hiking, start on the Eastern end of the trail. Look for the "Ouachita Trail 2019" group on Facebook for more info. Folks there can help with water availability, water crossing locations, campsite locations, etc. Sorry if this isn't what you're looking for, and good luck in your search.
