Or, just start a thread specific to Ohio hiking and camping and see what happens. It may not be much - there may only be 3 or 4 of us on here. However, by sharing our favorite places, maybe we can "enlighten" the rest of the group to what Ohio has to offer, and maybe even trick a few of them into visiting. smile

Actually, you may want to expand the target audience: there are also posters here from Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia, at least, and we all tend to hike on trails in one another's state.

Add another to the list of Buckeyes!! LOL!! Ohio does has some nice locations many in southern Ohio. It would be nice to see the state support more overnight backpacking by allowing overnight in more locations. Well just wanted to say Hey!!
Have a good one.

Here are a couple of websites I found:

http://backpackohio.com/index.html
http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/outdoorfun/backpacking/tabid/492/Default.aspx

There's a good bit of overlap, but there's more places to go than I realized.

You might also be interested in two books by Robert Ruchhoft: Backpack Loops and Long Day Trail Hikes in Southern Ohio, and Kentucky's Land of the Arches: The Red River Gorge in the Daniel Boone National Forest and Natural Bridge State Park. (OK, that last one isn't in Ohio - but it's close by.)
