I know that this question has been answered a million times but who makes the best freeze dried eggs?

Can you dehydrate bacon?

can you dehydrate pico de gallo (its a salsa without the tomato sauce is the best way I can describe it)?

thanks for your help

Eggs? Ova Brand. Find them at www.packitgourmet.com - they are the best I have had.

Bacon? No. Not worth the risk. Instead buy shelf stable bacon in small bags at most grocery stores or look for the very shelf stable bacon bits (that are still real bacon!) next to the croutons.

Pico dries nicely! Stuff is awesome. Just chop it small (dices) and spread on a lined tray (parchment paper works well). When tacky dry, peel off and flip over to get the back side dry. Break up when dry and store. Rehydrates with cool water in minutes smile

Double the caution on bacon. If you make a mistake, growth of anaerobic bacteria (the fat in bacon can exclude oxygen) can produce a neurotoxin that will leave you either dead or paralysed for long enough for something else to kill you. This used to happen all the time to incautious or inept wilderlings. You don't hear about it anymore because there are safe, stable bacon products available.

I know some eat the store bought pre-cooked bacon that I'm assuming is vaccum packed. I've never tried it, but it would work. Then you'd have some super smelly trash!

Surprisingly the pre cooked bacon has a low smell till heated up. I usually grab the bags of the crumbled/chopped. The bag has a zip top, so once empty flatten, seal and put in garbage. No big smell that way smile (Unlike the tuna packets!)
