2011 Garden - Garlic

Some more pics. These are of our 2011 garlic crop. Usually harvest toward end of July. Had about 1000 plants last year. This year a little over 1/2 that. Garlic has come up (planted first of October last). Now about 1" high.

I would say that is a lot but the way we go thru garlic it isn't

Exactly my sentiment.

We like to braid the smaller heads for give-away to friends, neighbors. We save largest cloves for next year's seed. We pickle some and use in pickling other veggies. I eat a lot of it raw, especially early in the season when it's easier to peel and we use a lot in cooking. So, in fact, the harvest really isn't too much.

I haven't tried growing garlic yet. That really makes me want to give it a shot.

Last year was my first year harvesting garlic. I only did a few to try it out two falls ago. I put in even more last fall. We will see how well I do this year.
