I'd always heard that you should just pull out a deck of cards and start playing solitaire - someone would immediately show up to tell you the red 2 goes on the black 3.
Or, if you're married, start a DIY project - your spouse will immediately appear to ask if you're done yet, and if you intend to leave it that way.
