osceola n'tl forrest - 03/16/08 11:26 PM

I am a beginner, and was wondering if someone had information on how to deter certain animals during nighttime hours. I am going to Osceola forrest, and I know there are bobcats, gators, black bear, and rattlers. When I am sleeping, and if I cannot have a fire, how can I make sure my site is free from such animals. As far as food goes, I know to hang my pack away from camp, and in the air. But, while I am asleep, I want to be safe from critters. I will be by myself, and any advice would be great....HELP!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Generally, if you keep a clean camp you don't have to worry about these type of animals. Raccoons are more worrisome.

Rattlesnakes like to be under things so don't go moving rocks and things with your hands. Use a stick. But, don't go poking anything.

I'm sure a few others will chime in.
