Backpacking training - 11/23/09 02:27 PM

Though I have backpacked years ago I consider myself a newbie as the equipment has improved and changed so much. I went out to the local state park today. I put about 27 pounds in my Mountainsmith Cross country. I hiked 5 miles with this pack for the first time. I felt very comfortable. The grades are not very steep but im sure a couple times a week should make my trip to the smokies in March ,more comfortable.

The nice thing about our sport is that the training is fun. A balanced strength and aerobic program is necessary for all sports, but the best training is hiking. I wonder if anyone would ask whether hockey or baseball was the better training for playing basketball.
