Ka.....

Hey, all you climber dudes, I just got back from Las Vegas (and I don't gamble!) and took in a Cirque du Soleil show called "Ka". That's the most dangerous 2 hours of rope work/climbing/falling/flying I've ever witnessed. People were routinely falling 50-75 feet into...air bags, I guess. Couldn't see it, all below stage level. Anybody else see the show?

Well, let's hope it was air bags or at least something better than a rock pile. Fifty feet is usually fatal.

Now that's a show for those without a fear of fallin' don't ya think Paul <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> Sounds interesting and I bet there are free climbers/bouldering nuts that would like to get their hands on some of those crash pads <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

Yeah, I've seen Ka, Whole thing is pretty darn neat. I was seriously impressed, between the ropework, climbing, falls, and the massive stage full of cork bits that look like sand <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> My daughter (ex-gymnast) likes the more "traditional" cirque-de-soleil shows with more tumbling, gymnastics and acrobatics, but I loved Ka.

Why...bidness, ofkhorse! Plus my ex-bidness partner lives there as well as my church audio guy. One of my companies sends me there once a year. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

That stage is bigger than most people's house lots and moves from horizontal to vertical through three axis's, while people are flopping around on it. And steel spikes blast out, while people scramble up, slide off into the abyss, or climb to the top, and then fall the 100 feet into the darkness. I want to know who first jumped off that thing and decided "hey, no big deal!" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

I want one of those radio controlled 'flying wires' the wall climbers were using. Now that's cool! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Yes. Only it travels from horizontal to longways vertical through three axis throughout the show. Sometimes they are climbing it, sometimes they are sliding off of it at an angle. Sometimes its a flat stage. Must have cost millions to construct, all computer controlled.

air bags i think. i'll ask somebody...a friend of mine did the rigging for that show i think.

I've seen it. I was at the annual Interbike Show in Las Vegas and went to it after the show was over. Though the ticket prices were a little high, I have never seen a more impressive stage and theater! It was like I was sitting on set of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. I was also impressed how everything seemed so seamless. My favorite part was when the stage moved almost vertical and the pegs began popping out representing arrows being shot at them. The way they slid down several feet catching themselves at times and falling out of view was very impressive. It was worth seeing in my opinion.
