Constellation guide?

Constellation guide? - 07/04/09 10:31 PM

I've been hunting like crazy for a 'pocket-sized', 'lightweight', or 'backpacking friendly' book that covers constellation information: location, history, mythology, etc. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Forever grateful if so!

You bet!

I'm an avid scope builder and astronomer and this field guide has what you want.

You might also pick up a planisphere.

There are small versions that pack well.

Kindly fill out your profile so we know where you are and what you are into.

I agree with the Planisphere. I love mine. It has a dark background so you don't go blind if you are using a flashlight (or you could use a flashlight with a red filter on it). It is completely flat, so you can slide it in your pack easily.

The iPhone has the StarWalk application.

Absolutely mind boggling.

While not a book, the free app "Stellarium" is pretty darn cool and will help you learn more about location, history, mythology, etc.

It even runs on a Mac wink
