camera troubles

Each time in the past 2 weeks when ive gone to take a photo with my Canon powershot 10 it gives me a white LED screen on the back of the camera, regardless of the lighting in the photo <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I compose the picture and then take it just fine, seems right after the shutter operates that the white screen appears <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> Does anyone know of an adjustment I can make to remedy this?

Fresh battery, on manual or auto exsposure it does the same thing, indoors or out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I figure Nity, Phat, Paul, TR, you guys use lots of electronic stuff...

Sounds like a software issue to me. Sometimes gizmos have a way to "Reset" the software. Usually you have to hold a button (or two buttons together) down for a few seconds, until you hear a beep. Your camera manual may tell you how, or you may have to contact Canon support to find out how.

Sometimes you can update the "Firmware" (built-in software) by downloading a file from the manufacturers website and connecting the device to your computer. Check with Canon's website to see if this is an option.

Try changing memory cards too. Or changing from internal to external memory (or vice/versa) to check if it's a memory problem.

If none of that works, try throwing the camera real hard at a wall or big boulder. That probably won't fix it, but it will feel good.

If you can't fix it yourself Cannon will be happy to repair it.......for a fixed fee that nearly equals the cost of a new camera. That was my experience with an SD200 a few years ago. My symptoms were the same as yours.... a dead LCD screen. My SD 400 did the same thing (in the middle of the Grand Canyon <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> ) but fortunately that camera was still under warranty at the time and Canon fixed it quickly at no cost other than one way shipping.

guess if it continues to work, not work, then ill have to figure plan b with it. odd that it would appear functional except for the whiting out of the screen after the photo is taken. it does say 'busy' on the lcd screen on the camera after the photo and before the white out though <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Back, many years ago. When I was a kid. I remember our t.v. would go on the fritz and my dad would put in the car and to the repair shop. When he would get there, the thing would work fine. So he would bring it back home and comment about taking it for a ride when it wouldn't work. He would say "Take it for a ride and it will work fine". Well, he didn't take the vaccume cleaner for a ride when it quit. He tried to repair it in the middle of the living room floor and dropped a screw down into the machine. He couldn't get to the screw because the case was permanently rivited together. He turned it upside down trying to shake the screw out, for what reason I couldn't tell you. All of a sudden, he was frustrated with messing with the POS. Set it down on the floor, ripped the chord out of it with his bare hands, opened the door and threw it out into the front yard. After he cooled down, we had a good laugh about the whole thing saying, Well, that one didn't get to take a ride, it flew.
So the same goes with technology. I have a three year warrenty on this computer, but with designed obsolesence, I will have to replace this POS in a couple of years. Who knows if it will fly or ride? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

Man that's a crack-up, and can I ever commiserate with him! I've tossed a few POS's myself.

My first real job was fixing stuff. I've always tried to fix instead of toss and buy anew, but it keeps getting harder. Now, when I'm assembling some new POS I've bought I can estimate about how long it will be before I'm throwing it away too.

I've actually gotten to the point where I hardly buy anything new. The last 5 times I went to China-Mart I didn't buy a thing. They either didn't have anything new I wanted, didn't have what I needed, or what they had wasn't worth getting.

The last big purchase I made was my Singer 99 Sewing machine that I got on eBay for under $100.00 bucks. I shouldn't have had to buy it because I bought a "Brothers" from China-Mart just a few years before for my wife for Mothers Day. She told me it really didn't work too good so she never used it. I got a bug to do some sewing and tried it out for myself. What a POS. That 56 year old Singer still kicks it out though.

I wonder how far a fellow can through a nearly new POS sewing machine? There ought to be a competition for stuff like that. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I am now getting into photography, and what I am learning through books and advice from others is teaching me a great deal.

One of the first lessons I learned is to find a camera that still has a traditional viewfinder. Most are tiny lcd viewfinders that you put you eye up to, but if you can find a camera that has a regular viewfinder lens it can take alot of the frustrations away.

My camera was working fine, then i messed with a setting, that i can't recall; and the whole thing goes white/blank on the lcd screen after the shot. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I missed a whole bunch of nice photos during the past 2 months because of it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

Gonna go make myself an mre for dinner....

Canon cameras have a Reset All option, (Menu, Set Up (spanner&hammer symbol) ,Reset All) Try that.

Seriously though there should be a way to restore factory settings. It sounds like the setting you changed is what messed it up. Hope you get it working.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> I can't find the 'reset' function in the menu area Guys <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> right below the 'clock display' icon in the menu area is an icon that is sublimated that i cannot get the camera to click on. it just goes above or below it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I'll keep trying to figure it out, but with the manual being on a cd and this computer not staying working it's really frustrating getting the camera functioning. I'm going to see if I can get it to a camera store next monday <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> stay tuned....

Sorry, I just realized you have the S10, older than the ones using the menu functions I detailed. Unfortunately I cannot recall any "reset" functions on those. With some older cameras, removing the batt and pressing the power button resets the camera to the factory setting.
To access that hidden function turn the top dial to the camera+m symbol.

I have managed to get this laptop running again with the help from a local 14 yrear old kid <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" /> Not that it's working smoothly, just functioning. seems like the mouse has a mind of it's own and auto complete is doing everyhting else to thwart my attempsts at enjoying the computer <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />
