Puffy eyes

Puffy eyes - 08/02/08 10:02 PM

I noticed today, after getting back from my eight day, High Sierra trip, that my eyes were a little puffy. Should I have worn my sunglass clip-ons more, fished less or put more sun screen on? About the sixth/seventh day out, I noticed my nose was a little sore after washing my hair. I'm thinking I should have reapplied more sunblock before fishing more as I washed the sunblock off when I washed my hair and face.

Have you been tested for allergies?

No. On a weekend trip a year ago, I had to xc thru some brush for a hundred yards or more and it was heavy with pollen. My face puffed up like a blow fish and took a couple days to get back to normal. I don't remember anything being in bloom heavy where my trip was though.

Airborne allergies are a year round thing. When the weather is warm, you've got a myriad of trees, grasses, and weeds. There's no let up, even when nothing is obviously pollinating.

Diagnosing allergies is complex, I wouldn't pretend to be able to do it online. Best to check with your doctor or see a specialist. But the puffy, itchy eyes sounds like garden variety allergies to me.

If you want to try something over the counter, pick up some generic Loratadine. It takes a week or so to build up in your system, though so don't judge it after one or two pills. Benedryl is also used by some.

I may have developed some sensitivity to the brush last year and came across some pollen on my trip. It cleared up overnight, so I'm not worried about it, just curious if I had too much sun or what.
