Missing hiker in RMNP - 02/03/13 04:19 PM

This has been a big story here on Denver news this morning (Saturday.) The man, from San Antonio, was in town for a conference and went to Bear Lake in RMNP for a hike, probably without snowshoes (the trails are pretty packed from lots of use there.) Estes Park and the area have had a lot of snow the past week and very cold temps. He's been missing since Thursday, and they found his car in the trailhead parking lot on Friday. We can only hope he is found safe soon.

Story.

Monday's story:

Search scaled back

Lesson for all of us: Let someone know where you are going, leave a note in your car. Ralston's "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" should have taught us all this.

I have a couple of friends from San Antonio who like to go to Colorado to backpack. The first thing I did was check the name. It wasn't anyone I know.

I suppose he must have gotten disoriented. Very sad.
