It's very odd how people will do this miles from the trailhead... I can see wanting to reassure a nervous spouse or send a picture to someone, but walking around on half dome talking about your auntie's bunions or the last movie you saw? Get off the phone!

Darn Verizon.

Well, I know I've done it myself - although not walked off a cliff. having left the cell phone on on
a day trip, and been dumb enough to answer it.. I have had at least 4 conversations like this:

Ring ring...
<grumble.. fumble>
*Yeah what?
- Bob! blah blah! not working.. blah blah! peoplesoft! blah blah. servers in woof woof...
* I don't care. I'm standing on top of a mountain.
...blah blah blah.. hunh?
* I don't care. I'm standing on top of a mountain.
.blah blah?
* I don't care. I'm standing on top of a mountain - I'm not going to help you.
* call someone else.. Kay?
..oh.....
<click>

Interesting it usually happens on a mountain top. because that's where my cell picks up

In my case its usually when I have forgotten to turn the dumb phone off though. and in evey
case I turn it off right after. why I still answer the dumb thing is beyond me. It's pavlovian.

I did nearly jump off the Panorama Trail (Yosemite) when my ringing phone scared the tar out of me. I remember to turn the thing off after that experience.

I've made the mistake of answering calls like that myself. So now I put the phone on silent and check for missed calls a couple times a day. Usually a call back can wait. If it's important, and I have a signal, I may return the call when I'm Good and well ready to do so. And maybe not till I get back to the parking lot. They should have had the forsite to anticipate my attitude and not bother me when I don't want them to. Oh the good old days of only having a phone attached to a chord.

And to think, I thought I was 'all that' when I switched from my rotary to my present push button desktop phone Cell? oh, that is an amoeba I learned that in high school, next question

If the guy was to daft to talk on a cell phone and walk off a cliff, how do you think he does talking on a cell phone and driving. I think that guy lives in this city.
