2 New Esbit products - 02/26/08 06:19 PM

Esbit has finally come out with a flat, folding, i piece metal stove in sheet form You just shape it when you need it otherwise it's flat in your pack. Now that's space saving! if you use Esbit then this stove is for you!

They also debuted their Lifeboat type windproof matches, saw 'em in January at Campmor. They come in a case and look to be good for emergency use, if not for regular camfire use.

Even cooler, you can take the 'new' esbit stove and trace an outline onto Ti foil and make ur own superduper uL folder call it the Earthling Ether Stove TM of course just in case Jason is reading this

Earthling, thanks for the clues to find it. I think this is what you mean. AGS Labs Esbit Emergency Stove

Its a little difficult to see in the packaging but looks like the sides of the flat stove fold up to support the pot? And for $3, the price is right. I wonder how well it supports a pot full of water? Carol

About what are the dimensions of the emergency stove when folded into shape?

This (scroll down a bit: amichauf) is another brand of flat folding stove I happen to use. Very lightweight, and a little bit more wind protective than the Esbit one. It's was originally french army gear.

I still just use the plain old folding box Esbit stove with a couple of aluminum sides that clip on to block the wind. Boring, I know.

Earthling, have you seen Mugs Esbit stove?

His is the HPS Stove. It is a tiny little piece.

PLUG, PLUG,PLUG, Man were a bunch gear wh%#es Personally I think it looks better in this configuration. Brings things into perspective more.

Aren't those the ones when, upon striking, the flaming match head flies off, adheres to, and melts a hole in the rubber life raft? Brum

Re: 2 New Esbit products - 02/28/08 10:34 AM

Yeah Mugs, but I like Sarah's balancing act much better A very nice and seemingly windproof design Mugs If only money were no option

The new Esbit stove is 3" wide by 5" long approx from memory, might be an inch shorter in both lengths Up it's about 1 1/2" tall all around, really ingenius but not for long term durability like Mugs' stove IME.

I think the constant folding of the Esbit stove would fatigue the metal, and the stove could fail when you need it most

Yeah, those matches Barry Shhhhhhhhh!ark

Actually this one looks good, but refolding it flat would surely have it meet it's demise from metal fatigue. I guess that's why they stuck with the box one all these years

I still think Mugs Esbit stove is leaps and bounds more reliable and windproof than even the new flat fold esbit one
