Usage of the SteriPEN Adventurer - 02/24/08 01:26 PM

I'm considering gettting the SteriPEN Adventurer. I would like to use a 0.5 or 1 liter platy with a hydration tube. The SteriPen will not fit in the platy.

Any suggestions for a really lightweight bottle with a lid that the SteriPen will fit in? This bottle would be used to dip in streams, steri the water, then pour into the platy.

Wide mouth sugar water bottle, like Gatorade? Anything lighter? Maybe with a mouth the fits tightly against the SteriPen so I could just invert the bottle and SteriPen (so the bottle wouldn't have to be full to connect to the 2 leads).

Thanks

I cut the top off of a 2 liter soda bottle and marked the bottom on the side at the 1 liter mark. I use this to scoop water from streams and lakes and to use as a container for stirring with the Steripen UV wand. The container weighs less than an ounce and the rim will bend to form a pouring spout. It fits over the top of my rolled Thermarest ProLite 3 for carrying on the trail. I also use it to hold a bit of extra water around camp (1.4 liters to the brim); a freezer bag fits over the open end to keep floaties from getting in.

I use a either a .5 L or 1L Nalgene canteeen. It can store flat when not in use.

I think the 2 liter idea is fantastic. You actually have room to stir or agitate the water. I may borrow that one if I get a SteriPen. Thanks much, I'm glad I'm able to come back to these forums after being away on TDY good stuff so far.

The 2 liter can also be used to store a Caldera Cone. Nice one! Thanks

i tested the Adventurer for backpackgeartest. to use it, i ended up cutting off the top of a gatorade bottle, since the wand won't fit through the mouth. as far as using a 2L bottle, i think the Adventurer can only treat up to 1L at a time. (i sold mine, so i'm going off of memory here)

Fear not lots of guys who don't want to leave their warm confines use them as a portable outhouse indoors I need one since my last one left in my old pack
