light tent for rainy/windy backpacking - 06/29/15 04:11 PM

Hello guys!

Can you help me choosing a light backpacking tent for two persons?

I´m 33 years old, 5’7” tall and live in southeast Brazil. I will camp with a person my height.

I´m looking for a tent for a 3 nights backpacking trip where I am expecting night temperatures down to 15F, altitude of 8500ft max where winds might be a problem. I will use this tent afterwards on weekend wild campings where I may experience heavy summer showers and/or prolonged rainy days on open, relatively strong winds area.

I willing to pay up to $400,00.

For what I´ve researched, I´m between three options:

• Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 or Slater UL2+ (couldn´t see the difference between them)

o Pros: low weight, good vestibule area, good internal area

o Cons: weak on heavy winds

• CAMP Minima 2 SL

o Pros: sturdy design passes confidence against heavy winds and rain

o Cons: no vestibule, small for two persons

• Snow Peak Lago 2 (couldn´t find much information about performance)

o Pros: nice look, looks resistant against wind

o Cons: price, no vestibule

My major concern is the resistance against heavy and prolonged rain, and winds. A vestibule where you can cook something while you pass the rainy day stuck in the tent will be interesting.

The feature I care most is weight/pack size.

Do you have any other tent suggestion and comments? I also saw the “Terra Nova Solar Photon 2” but I´m not finding it anywhere to buy.

Thanks!

Looks as though our software gremlins have struck again? See Support Requests and Suggestions for the explanation. It's being worked on!

Yes, it is being worked on. Fix has been found now must find money and time to get the new software and install.

Apparently, the poster tried to compose in Outlook and then cut and paste. Unfortunately, cut n paste from external text editor doesn't seem to be working now. Also, can't post HTML code. However, this forum does have its own UBBCode with which to compose messages.

Hopefully, once we upgrade we will have better capability to cut and paste.
