Looking at a new pack!

I'm stuck between two amazing packs and and I can't decide which one to invest in. I am looking at the the Osprey Exos 58 and Gregory Savant 58. I like their weight, size, and storage options for both. If you have any comments or suggestions on which one to buy let me know!

Well which one fits you best? I like Osprey packs.

Follow Rockchucker's advice. Buy the one that fits you best. Don't rely just on specs. Been there, done that, sold it after one trip.

I'll vouch for the craftsmanship and durability of Osprey packs. I've put mine through some tough use and it looks no worse for the wear.

I have had them both fitted and i like how they sit on my hips and hug my shoulders I just cant decide between the the simplicity of one and the organization of anothyer.

Did you try both with your gear packed inside? That's the big test.

What about the weight of the two packs?

My personal experience with lots of pockets is that I tend to go through all of them looking for the item I want, which is inevitably in the last place I look. Your mileage, of course, may vary.

The Osprey is a pound less. If they both fit well, then your search is over.

Absolutely try it on loaded. If at all possible, go to the store with the gear (including food and water) that you would leave the trailhead with, for a typical trip (whatever that is for you.) Load all of that into the pack - then you'll not only know how it carries loaded, but also if your gear will pack easily and conveniently into the pack.

I've used both the Atmos and the Exos, and found that they both fit about the same unloaded, or with 20 pounds in them. However, with 25 pounds, the Exos was no longer comfortable, while the Atmos was - the lighter suspension of the Exos seemed to be the culprit.

In all fairness, I've talked to people who have carried 30 or 35 pounds in it and claimed it was comfortable. That just proves that YOU need to try it on loaded, rather than taking my word (or anyone else's word) for how well it carries.

I organize stuff with colored ditty bags in the Osprey. I put stuff I want fast access to in the top pouch, outside pockets, and at the top of the bag. It really isn't much different than a bag with a lot of pockets.

I thought I'd miss the zippered pockets on my old bag but it worked out good for me because I was just like OM said, always going through all of them to find what I want. For whatever reason I can better remember what's in the ditty bags.

For little stuff I use Ziploc bags, which are lighter than ditty bags and also see-through.

I have an exos 48 and 58.
exos 48 excels at weights around 20 lbs
love mine its comfortable and roomy
the 48 handled a 3 season weekend trip no problem.
