Unhappy tent Camper.. *tents* - 06/28/13 11:29 AM

Hello, My name is Travis. I am a semi experienced backpacker and all around outdoors nut, I love being outside. Most of my miles are on days trips up to 18-20 miles, I have my fair share of nights under the stars though.
I am looking for a decently priced tent
-light weight -roomy - good ventilation- erects with trekking pole(s)
I really like the MSR fast stash. I wish it had more mesh though. I'd love to see through the top sides and door without the fly.
If anyone has seen out there a tent they think would be fitting, please through a suggestion up. I currently use an older ureka tent I purchased from a garage sale. it's small.
I'd love to give up the weight of tent poles for more space, I usually have my trekking poles with me while backpacking.
I have considered hammocks. and am about to purchase a netted hammock and rain fly. still need a tent for those nights in the open out of the trees.

The link at the top of the page here for "Tarptent" is a pretty great option that might work for you.

Have you considered using a tarp rather than a tent? You can get a roomy tarp made of silnylon for under $100 and, if bugs are bad, get a light net-tent to go under the tarp. If you don't mind learning basic sewing, you can get kits for both a tarp and net-tent from Ray Jardine. Tarps are well ventilated, roomy and light; might be worth a thought.

Hi Travis
I posted some ideas on the other DIY thread but since you are asking for an existing tent too, I would suggest to you the TT SS1.

Sets up in less then two minutes with two trekking poles , it is very roomy for a solo tent (it holds 2x20" mats) and you can leave all the four side panels (vestibule panels) fully or partially open.
Some end up with this kind of set up by buying a shaped tarp and a separate inner, this one comes all included but can be used fly or inner alone.
here is my video clip on this one :

You can see it fully open at about 5:20

From the listed criteria I suggest that you look at Lightheart Design tents.

Six Moon Designs has a very similar model now, actually "models" --- their 'skyscape' variants.
