looking for light weight slides (camp sandals)

looking for light weight slides (camp sandals) - 12/29/10 11:40 PM

I prefer the slide style so I can wear them with socks when the temps drop.

Most important to me is lightweight and fast drying.

Looking at zappos, the best thus far is:

Any suggestions?

Not sure many people in the lightweight section really bring camp-shoes. Most will just loosen their trail-runners or put on down boots (in the winter). I know a few people who use crocs or water-shoes.

I guess for "slide" style camp shoes there really isn't a market and they are all about the same in cost and weight.

I snagged some Croc Crostrails from Amazon for $22. I really like them, they're a little more heavy-duty... but also a little heavier than what you're looking for probably at 7 oz.

I have a pair of early columbia convetable sandels I like for camp shoes they have a removable back strap so you can have the best of both worlds

This is the closest they make now

Gonna try the Sprint Nylon Mesh Shoes. Though based on what i've read, my size 11.5 feet might not fit in their size 11/12 shoes.

I wear an 11.5, and got the large sprint aquatics. They fit fine. I do have pretty flat feet, though. If you have a high arch you may be out of luck. I'd give it a shot, though. They're so cheap you don't have much to lose.

I hated the Sprint Mesh shoes. Someone about five years ago on this site ordered a bunch and then sold to whoever signed up. I found them to be way too flimsy with absolutely no side support so whenever I walked up or down a hill, my foot slid in the shoe up the side. Very thin sole also so was pretty useless for even going out to get firewood. YMMV

I had a look the other day at some imitation Crocs. Much lighter than the real thing and no doubt not as durable but may do for light duty around camp.
What I do now is to take bread bags (plastic) with me and after I have a wash I put my coolmax liner socks on (night socks) , then the plastic bag and if cold enough the day socks on top of that.
(you need spare bags, they don't last for long)
so I go around with the laces undone. If you do that and trip over them, don't blame me...

I go bare foot (not in the winter for anything but very short times.) But my feet are pretty calloused and ugly...

I have crossed Alaskan streams bare foot as well - not really suggested though.

If you cut or get frost-bite on your feet, don't blame me wink

I actually use the closed toe Crocs for around camp. Strong enough to wander around and get down to the lake for a swim. With size 13 shoes, I generally need the lightest shoe I can get. They are tough enough and easy enough to clean that I can strap them onto the outside of my pack with no problems.

I also just loosen up my travel runners. I tried the aqua sprinter and hated them. They wore out quickly and I found gave a fail sense of protection. I would rather go barefoot.

I have thought about trying some grip socks http://www.sandsocks.net/product.cfm?action=show_product&product_id=34 but haven't yet. Someone on one of the backpacking forums I read seemed to like them a lot.

Another croc like alternative are the inov-8 recolite 180

I have been thinking about them for around town, but they might make a good camp shoe.
