Best rain shell for me?

Best rain shell for me? - 07/18/10 09:01 PM

After more than 10 years, the Gore-tex process faded from my 3-layer shell. I can replace it with my choice (Gore-tex only). I don't like the WR zippers (think Arcterx) because they're so stiff. I don't climb, so a hood big enough for a helmet is TOO big for my pea-sized head. I have it narrowed down to: Marmot (Mt. Blanc or Palisades); Cabella's Guidewear; or TNF Mtn. Lite. Can anyone tell me about the hoods of these (or suggest alternatives)? Thanks tons.

Thanks for the info. I always loved my MH jacket. I hated to lose it - I'll check it out.

Why GoreTex only? There are several materials which are more breathable... the best being eVENT.

Having the Arcteryx beta sl (super light-weight) GoreTex paclite shell, I actually found the zippers very functional (not too stiff), and I found the hood perfect. Just a thought...
