How to Choose an Alcohol Stove - 06/26/10 07:57 PM

I put together a Squidoo page with a bunch of videos on how to choose an alcohol stove. If you know any newbies looking for advice on where to start, you might find this link useful to send to them. I'll be updating it with more information on a regular basis: How to Choose an Alcohol Stove for Backpacking

Ive been messing around lightly with alchy stoves for a bit...but without the right tools I was building them in a rough fashion. Now that I am at my parents house, my pops got a whole arsenal of tools so this week I plan on making a few solid ones. Still a newb and have tons of questions, but your videos are of huge help, and the zen website as well.

I didn't even think of the advice you mentioned in your video "How to Choose an alcohol stove, part one", where you mention take in to consideration the size of said pot. I guess I was one of those people that made the most popular mistake. smile I have a Snow Peak 600 titanium mug as well, and have decided to go with a style similar to the mini bull atomic.

Thanks again for JK and everyone who is helping us newbs convert to alchy stoves!

This is a great video series and I learned a lot! Thank you, Jason! One of these days I may yet make the conversion from the canister!

For those who don't regularly follow Jason's blog Gear Talk with Jason Klass , his latest post is a fascinating look at the first portable camping stove, dating to 1850!

My collection of alchy stoves is not as extensive as Jasons (I bow down to Robert aka oops and his collection). Once I started to use the Fancee Feest, I never looked back. I even use it in winter. It is fast, efficient, capable of simmering, can be used on a variety of pots, etc... It is the most versatile, fast, and efficient alchy stove I have found.
