North Face Nuptse vs. MH Sub-Zero Down Jackets????

Thinking of getting a reasonably priced down jacket and looking at these two.

Any opinions?

The TNF jacket is supposed to be 8 ounces lighter so I wonder if it has less down or is just a matter of construction. Also is supposed to have 700 vice 650 down but not sure how big of a difference is between the two fills.

Looking for something warm. Am leaning toward the TNF due to weight and reviews I have read.

Your down jacket just might be the single most important choice that you make next to sleeping bag and rain gear.
The Nuptse is light and relatively worthless except as warm up for spring and fall, over say a fleece jacket.

Down doesn't weigh much, get as much as you can in your jacket and the shell on a Nuptse leaks. Don't try to save ounces on a jacket, thats like getting a sleeping bag with no stuffing to save weight. There are times where this go light idea is just anti-logical.

What do you mean by warm? I have the Nuptse. I take it skiing for riding the lift and for around town in winter, and I live in LA. I don't consider it a serious winter parka.

My winter parka is the one I have on in my avatar pic. A TNF Baltoro (now called the Himalayan in its latest version). I got mine off eBay for about half price. New, they are around $500.

My big parka is Goretex, the Nuptse is nylon. It is as big as it looks with a fully filled hood.
