NeoAir Stuffsack

NeoAir Stuffsack - 12/09/09 03:38 PM

I recently bought an official Thermarest regular size stuff sack for my regular size NeoAir. Sometimes I wish I would have bought the shorty NeoAir, but that's a different story. Anyway, I thought the Stuff sack was a little tight, just like all the other Thermarest stuff sacks I've had for other Thermarest pads. Why do they make those things so tight? I returned the regular stuff sack and got the large. Now I can fold the NeoAir in half instead of in thirds, and fit it in the large stuff sack with no problem. It makes a longer but narrower bundle, and it works better for me. Just thought I'd mention this in case some one else is considering buying an official stuff sack for the Thermarest Regular.

The whole idea behind the NeoAir is small, light, but comfortable. Having a large stuff sack would negate these advantages. I actually use the small stuff sack for my regular NeoAir. It takes a bit to get it in, but the result is an incredibly small piece of gear that takes very little room in my 2000cu. in. pack. The fact that I can get a regular NeoAir in the small stuff sack is mind boggling!

I'm glad you found a solution for your problem. The Large stuff sack really isn't huge either and would make rolling the pad up much easier as you only have to fold it in half verses in thirds like the small and regular stuff sacks require. Your suggestion is very welcome and a good consideration for those who have questions about stuff sack size, ease of packing, etc. Just know the overall packed size will be bigger...

I spent my money at a small, local bp/outdoors store where I bought a Granite Gear stuff sack which I have little trouble getting my small NeoAir into. Plus, it was about a third to half the price cheaper than the official stuff sack which you have to purchase separately.

Hi, Jason - it's been awhile; welcome back. I haven't had any trouble rolling my NeoAir and getting it into the proper stuff sack. However, I'm finding that it's just as efficient to leave the Neoair in the Compack chair kit, fold the chair in half (covering the pad with a nylon shell, just like a sack), then rolling the chair around the stays. It's not quite as small, but then I'm not trying to get everything into a teeny tiny pack. smile

I haven't tried it in seriously cold weather (freezing or below), but so far I really like the NeoAir. It's very comfortable and kept me warm at 45 degrees or so. I'm also using it with the Ventra quilt, which I also like except for the weight. (You could pass along a suggestion to CD to make a "Ventra XLT" version with 850-fill down, perhaps sold only on their website if dealers won't stock it due to limited demand. I know I'd pay an extra $100 or $150 dollars to save an extra half pound.)

I don't like the idea of having to fold it and unfold it every day, so my current inclination is to just leave the 20" width unfolded and roll it tight, wrap a thinlight pad around it and either pack the result inside my pack vertically or put the result in a garbage bag with rubber bands and strap it outside my pack.

If I change my mind, I can get the Neo-Air size regular in a gallon ziplock folded --- I think in thirds, I don't remember.
