If you like to tinker with alcohol stoves, you've come to the right place.

I was kind of hoping this was going to be about making your own alcohol...

Wander over to the "Make Your Own Gear Projects" section for about 30 more stove designs.

It would be fun to look into making alcohol while hiking. Honey can ferment pretty fast as a quick mead. On a zero day you could destill it maybe. Of course it might be lighter to make the alcohol before you go. No wait, it wouldn't, because you could add the water later. Hmmm. Kelly Kettle Still? Sounds pretty freekin scary dangerous actually. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

simplest way to "make alcohol"... just add water.

I think the still equipment would be pretty heavy.

My take on alcohol for drinking is fuel my stove with everclear, and either take some extra, and/or on
the days when I can have a fire and don't use the fuel, consume the exess "fuel" - when cut by 60% or
so everclear makes passable vodka - and it adds to hot chocolate or tea quite nicely.

i'm with you on this one. just made my penny stove and plan on using everclear as fuel. something just seems so wrong about powdered wine.

I don't know if it is good or not, I have never tried it. I don't drink much at all and especially not in the backcountry. IMO that is not a place to be impaired or dehydrated.

This could be the solution!
