Aluminum beer bottle from Bud

What should I make from this aluminum bottle I found <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> If I could thread the top for a suitable cap then it would be a nice alcohol fuel bottle. Has anyone reconfigured this bottle into anything usuable for backpacking?

try a rubber stopper (drilled) , carriage bolt , 2 washers and a wing nut. kinda like a mini boat plug.

Since that 'boat plug' would outweigh the bottle that's not a idea I will go with. I have a cork in it now.

Mugs, Making a stove from it seems logical, but only if it can't be used as a vessel to carry something. Since it is a bottle made from metal I wonder if it is lined with anything? Does anyone know positively if this bottle has a sealer on the inside?

Reason I ask, is if I wanted to boil water in I would'nt want sealer peeling off into the water. It's a convient shape to carry, and use in camp. Must be 12 oz at least. I keep thinking Kelly kettle for some reason, but this is too small for that. I could set it inside of another pot that is boiling water for something else to make; then just pull the bottle of hot water out to use for tea or whatever?

I saw them on a cruise one time. I don't know if they are lined, but I believe them to be 16oz, if they're the same as on the cruise.

Wack one open and see if it's lined. Go ahead and make a good cut so it's usable if it's not lined. Next, heat it up to see if any liner or coating comes off. I wouldn't recommend drinking Bud. It's brewed with rice (cheap) and gives me a headache everytime. To bad, so sad...

Appears to be a long neck type bottle with the Christmas themed blue and white snowflake design. I'm not cutting it until I have a clear idea of what is possible with it. I only found the one, but will be out this weekend with the Scouts cleaning up some more of the area and will look for a second that I can test.

I made a stove or two out of them. I didn't notice any type of coating, but I really wasn't looking. Since I was burning out of it, I wasn't too concerned.

I kept two six-packs of those bottles around for projects, but nothing ever hit me as being well suited to them. They eventually joined all the rest of the recycled aluminum. They're not good for a pot because they're narrow. A good pot should be as wide as possible to present the maximum amount of surface area to the flame. You can make a stove with them, but it's just a heavier version of the soda can stove. Maybe the aluminum itself could be used in a project.

I thought of making a votive candle lantern from it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Could run a piece of wire through a cork and shove the cork in the top to hang it from. Opening up the side without a dremel to make a window is a bit of a hassle <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />

If its not lined, Im in favor of the popcorn popper option. You could just cup your hands around the top opening and shovel hand to mouth until it stops popping. The brave (or foolhardy) could just suck straight from the opening. Or better still, you could set up the alcy/redbull stove with Bud bottle on a stand in a larger pot and let it fall into the larger pot as it pops. Or skip the pot and just let it all fall into the dirt... You're eating dirt anyways. Isn't that what camping is all about?

Those are great for whitebox-type stoves. Basically you cut the bottle and take the top part and put it upside down in the bottom part to create a double walled stove. Before doing this put some notches in the top for the fuel to flow through to the space between the walls. Put some holes in the outside of bottom part (the outer wall of the stove) for the flame to come out.

I saw a video online at one point showing the whole process but I can't find it now. Minibull design sells a stove just like this. Here's a video.

What happens with the open top of the neck inverted? There's no cap on it so why does'nt the thing act like a volcano <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" />

It's basically like a double-wall pepsi can stove. It does act a bit like a volcano when you first light it but then you put your pot on top and it functions as a potstand and the gasses are forced out the small side holes you have drilled rather than center.

The advantage of the aluminum bottle is that it is thicker than the can and so it makes a studier base for your pot. Also the shape of the neck, being thinner than the bottom of the bottle, means you can make a double wall stove with only two pieces rather than the three pieces it takes for a pepsi can stove.

Get a cork if you want to use it store fuel. I think you should make a candle lantern out of it and mail it to me. I'll provide the candles.

The stove or candle lantern sounds pretty good IMO.

If you have a computer that is running win 98 then I suggest that you do hook it up to a PTO and spinn it till the parts fly out of it. then find the little pieces and make art from it. This new computer I'm using now will be a worthless POS by the time the warrenty is up. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I am in the process of trying to make alky stove out of one of those bottles. I have it cut already and am looking for something to make the combustion wall out of. I will probably use the middle part of the bottle but I was hoping to find something a little lighter to put inside the stove. Oh well, what ever. I think with time that I will get it worked out though. I pretty much used the instructions for the "pepsi can" stove and just went from there.. Im not sure, but I have noticed the bottles being pretty cool myself after drinking one...really light and well made...not flimsy by no means.

I think to initiate a contest and give a timeline on final production would be cool...I bet folks would come up with some pretty remarkable inventions...Im gonna start brainstorming this evening.

I like to use these aluminum bottles for Supercats rather than the cat food can. You can cut them to a larger size and get more capacity. Here are some I made (the black ones are painted with heat-resistant paint):

I tried to make a much sturdier alky stove with one of those bottles but I didn't really have the right tools to do the job right. It would weigh a little more than a Pepsi can but the durability would out-weigh that in my opinion..I have found that the alky stoves, unless meticulously cared for are almost disposable. I blew this one but I won't give up because I think that it will be well worth my efforts with a more durable stove. When I finally get it built I will re-paint it with high-heat paint the same color that it was to begin with. The thing will look kool and I think will be more efficient if the stove can keep itself hot enough to burn without a primer tray...Hope this helps...Happy Trekking...sabre11004...
