Water Bottle, wide mouth, cheap and light.

Water Bottle, wide mouth, cheap and light. - 10/26/19 07:54 PM

I was making a list for an upcoming trip. I have a dozen or more water bottles, but they are either heavy (Nalgene 32 ounce capacity weighs about 6 ounces) or have are light but have narrow mouth (Old Gatorade Aid bottles are only two ounces for the quart size). My dilemma is that I like to filter my water through a coffee filter and I need a wide mouth bottle to do that efficiently. By the bye, I know the coffee filters only filter to about 20 microns but I haven't died (yet). I know the size of a giardia cyst is approximately 8 to 14 so they probably are laughing as they swim through my filter.
Pisses of the big bugs anyway.

The HDPE Nalgene bottles are lighter, about 3.5oz. Another option would be to use a light plastic funnel with a narrow-mouth bottle, like a soda bottle.

thanks Bill.
I will experiment with that at home. Sounds like a good idea.

These aren't wide mouth, but they are light at 1.2 ounces for a 1 liter bottle. And they collapse to a small volume.

Have Fun,
