I finished making My Silnylon tent!!! - 05/17/10 02:17 PM

I am happy to say I finished my silnylon tent this weekend! All I have to do is get a nice day to seam seal it. I made the Jones tent 2 from the make your own gear web site. I made a stuff sack for it this morning. Total weight including rear pole and stakes in the stuff sack 2 Pounds 1 ounce! I may be able to skim a ounce or two yet as my guy lines are a bit heavier than needed. This has got to be close to the lightest two person tent on the planet? Total cost was about 95 bucks However I have close to seven yards silnylon left over. I purchased form noah lamport and there is a ten yard min on each color. I am so pleased with how it came out. I wish I could post pictures on here. My next project will be a G4 pack. I may use Silnylon on the G4 instead of 2.2 ounce ripstop? with proper care I think it would be strong enough with light loads. Happy Trails!

I use Photobucket.
It is free and from memory was pretty quick and painless to join and upload.

Oh the photo of the stuff sack has my tent in it . IT is 5 inch diameter silnylon and 15 inches long. The stauff sack is not tightly stuffed, and includes all tent poles and stakes!

NO, you can have private and public albums.

Post the pic's you want to show on the forum into the public album and then you can put them in a thread.

You will have Photobucket (PB) open and right click on the image, select "Copy image location" and then in your post use the insert image icon (it will be the 4th from the left) and paste the url address. Once you figure it out, its pretty easy.

That looks fantastic! I've always wanted to do this, but haven't been able to find the time. But $95 isn't bad at all! And I'm pretty jealous that it is only 2 pounds. Have you tried it out yet?

Good luck on the G4 pack! Hope you post the results of that one too!

I havent hiked with it yet but have seam sealed it and tweaked the guy lines with gear in the tent. This Has eliminated the wrinkles you see in the photos. I received my G4 pack kit from Quest outfitters a couple days ago. I plan to make three packs from the pattern . One will be for me and the other two for my son and girl friend. They are interested in hiking so i want to encourage them. My G4 will be made fro 1.1 oz a yard silnylon. Hoping for ten to eleven ounce total pack weight? I will post

I didnt desighn it. It is the Jones tent two plans on make your own gear. However, back pole sujested in plans is no longer available. I have a metel lathe and turned lightweigh aluminm ferrals for a 5 piece pole made from kids fiberglass arrow shafts! works great and weighs practicly nil. However there are some great lightweight pole offerings on Quest outfitters web site!
