I am looking for a small lite very good quality mini burner to boil water. I will be boiling water for coffee and maybe some dehydrated meals. I am not sure about the dehydrated meals just yet. Maybe warm up my canned spaghetti.

Go to REI or Backcountry Gear (click on the box at the top of this page), and search for "stoves." Pay particular attention to Snow Peak, MSR, and Jetboil.

He hasn't been very active lately, but Hikin' Jim's Blog is still a great resource of information.

My recomendations:

1) If you want a simple get it and forget it type solution just get a Jet Boil. Several to choose from mostly based on how much water you want to boil. You can also pay more for lighter more exotic materials.

2) The cheaper offbrand solution that lots of people like because it is so light is the BRS 3000T.

3) The ultralight backtard hacker solution is an alcohol stove. Very minimalist but much slower than a cannister stove.

I like Zelph's design's but I think he is retiring from the business.

4) If you are in a group where you need lots of water or you want to melt snow get a remote cannister stove. I've got a Kovea Spider.

Note that alcohol or wood stoves are often banned during times of high fire danger. If you are anywhere west of the Mississippi, stick with an isobutane stove with on/off switch. And be careful; fire danger this drought year is already extreme!

We are and have been under Stage II fire ban for some months. Wood stoves and alcohol stove are definitely banned. As the Order reads the only stoves not banned by these restrictions are…
“Persons using a stove or grill that is solely fueled by liquid petroleum or liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuels.”

That’s it for the time being so my Embrtlit ti wood stove, White Box and Trangia stoves are currently shelved.

My favorite canister stove is the Kovea Spider. It’s a small, compact remote canister stove that can use a tight windscreen for super efficiency. Has a much smaller footprint when folded than other remote stores and a canister of fuel goes much farther. Just picked up two MSR half pound canisters yesterday at the local hiking shop. I can do anything with this stove.
