I ordered a Sawyer Mini, and originally also had two 2L Platypus bottles on the order. However, I kept reading conflicting comments about whether the newer Platypus bottles fit well on the Sawyer Mini, and I cancelled the bottles from the order to find out the facts. Supposedly the threads on the newer Platypus bottles (ex. 2L) have slightly different thread size or count than the typical US water bottle. This, according to the statements, makes the fit poor and the mating of the bottle to the filter prone to leaking.
Can anyone with newer models of these bottles please confirm or contradict these statements?
A few people state that the current smaller sized bottles do fit OK, but I don't know whether this is true or not either.

I haven't tried a Sawyer filter with a newer Platy, because my Platys date from before the thread configuration was changed. I switched to Evernew bottles five years ago because I was sick and tired of losing caps from the Platys and having to pack extra caps. Evernew bottles have the caps attached with a toggle, solving the lost cap issue. Maybe I'm just prone to losing bottle caps, but I seemed to lose one or two on every trip!

I have read that replacing the Sawyer washer with a standard hose washer from the hardware store solves the Platy leaking problem with a Sawyer filter, since the hose washer is slightly thicker. However, I have no idea if this is true--has anyone tried it?

The newer platy bottles will leak , as they have larger thread than the mini-sawyer.They don't cross thread for some odd reason. I tighten them down and they seem to behave themselves. I use them as squeeze bottles instead of the measly pint bottle that comes with the mini. Much better if your using the platy as a dirty bottle in a gravity feed. The pressure of sqeezing induces more leakage. The mini does not have an independent washer, rather a rubber end cap on the outflow that is not removable. Adding a washer may help to seal the platy bottles, I just make it a little snugger than others.
Not ideal, but takes a little getting use to. You learn to be careful and check for leaks before you get near your clean container. The mini has been a lightweight workhorse for me, after a few decades with the Katadyn Pro. If you find better dirty bottles, please let it be known.
