work for you -- that's okay, just scroll down the page. Regardless of their reasons for understating weight (and overstating utility), we need to respond by performing adequate gear research, in order to protect ourselves from being misled. The intent of this page is to provide a mechanism for (1) reporting your findings -- i.e., stated gear weight vs. actual gear weight -- and (2) benefiting from the posts of others as you do your own gear research. Please take the time to share your research with the rest of us. SheltersProduct = Walrus Micro Swift Stated weight = 3 lbs 4 oz Tested weight = 3 lbs 6 oz Reviewer = Bill T. Kudo's to companies like Western Mountaineering that don't feel they have to lie to us. That Marmot refund check is going to buy me a really nice WM MityLite!
Product = Macpac Overture (2000) Stated weight = 0.20 kg / 7.05 oz. Tested weight = 0.35 kg / 12.5 oz. Reviewer = Jan Unneberg Comments = The Macpac Overture is a bag cover that was significantly changed in the year 2000. The HiLight fabric of the older version was replaced with encapsulated Epic polyester. The weightof the old HiLight model was listed as 0.28 kg / 9.88 oz. It appears that Macpac made a mathmatical error when calculating the weight of the new Overture. Instead of adding 0.08 kg, Macpac subtracted 0.08 kg. causing a major weight discrepancy.
