I just found this again thread when looking at my past postings. Things do not add up.
While I have not been on the AT in Maine, I know the Maine woods can be pretty thick. I wonder if this was in the 100 Mile Wilderness? Even so, there are plenty of hikers on the trail.
But...she was lost 26 days and near the trail before dying? Something is really wrong here.
She had to have rationed her food, so she must have been somewhat experienced. She must have had fire making means (I assume, but could I be wrong?). Why did she not build a signal fire? We know she was being looked for. She was found near the trail, why did no searcher (let alone an ordinary hiker) see/hear her?
