So I'm planning my first long-distance hike. I have about two and a half months, which is more time than the GR 11 will take, but who knows maybe I'll just bum around Europe for a while afterwords.

I was thinking about hiking the Appalachian Trail for the duration, but I got money that I didn't expect and thought this would be a good thing to spend it on. BUT, my parents are worried. I'm only 19, and they think that a solo hike of GR 11 is going to be a little out of my skill level.

I'm not as worried as them, but I do wonder about the difficulty level of the GR 11, especially in terms of snow. Will there be sections where I'll have to cross glaciers, or do particularly difficult sections with additional dangers due to snow? Most of my experience (though there is a good deal of it) is with Appalachia, so would I be totally unprepared? Or would it still be in my skill range? (I know nothing about avalanches, glaciers, or really any intense mountaineering).

Thanks!
