Well, I went to my local hole-in-the-wall running store and asked about getting a pair of trail runners. I wanted something for long distance hiking/walking so I figured a trail shoe would be best. The sales girl spent 40 minutes with me, trying on every shoe out there. Then the owner walks up to her and tells her to go in the back and pull out a certain shoe. I slip them on and they were like heaven! Fit like a glove. I looked at them and they are a pair of Inov 8 Roclite 320's. These things are so light. I guess he knew what I really needed.

Anyway, I am going to go try them out in the park on some dirty trails and will let you know how it goes.

If anyone else has a pair, let's hear what you have to say about them. Of course...it will be difficult to convince me that they stink.

BTW...he knocked off $30 for being a good customer. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

No personal experience with these shoes, just lots of others.

The fit feels good in the store. That's a good sign. But the real test will be after 3 hours on the trail, maybe after a long descent which will tell you if the toe box is right.

There is also a slight chance that any new shoe could result in knee pain because it lets your foot pronate/supinate differently than what you had. This problem will usually surface only after several miles/hours.

Some fit problems can be solved with creative lacing.

Sounds like you got a good deal. Hope they work out and keep us posted.

I did a fast jog/walk on the dirt/gravel mountain bike trail in the park...about an hours worth and so far so good. I'll keep trying them out. They do have some funky runners knot at the top, which I like. It holds my heel in nicely. I'll keep updating as things progress. I want to wear a light pack for the real test.

I also bought 1/2 size larger, which is a first for me. But I have learned in the past, that daily mileage of 15+ miles make my feet swell a bit. I will be doing an upcoming long distance hike and I'm sure that will happen.

I've never used them, but based on everything I've heard, they're great, and will only stink after you've sweated in them enough

for hiking shoes, as long as the upper still fits, I always go a half size up for room in the foot box.
