Hello,

I just cut up a self-inflating pad (sports store homemade brand). Now i have 2 lightweight pads of about 33 inch a piece. One is already sealed again, but i'm wondering if it is possible to find a second valve somewhere, then i get not one but two lightweight pads for the price of about 25 bucks (depending what a valve costs). Cheap, light ,and comfy...

Not sure what pad type you have. But a quick google search for thermarest replacement valve had many hits. cost seemed to be around $5. Good luck.

I don't only need the valve, but also the part that is glued to the pad (the thing that looks like an elongated square) where the valve goes into. Is that possible to find ?

You could try a valve stem from a car tire. You may have to modify it a little, but it would probably work, plus they are cheap and readily available.

Contact the folks at Cascades Design who make Thremarests to buy a few from them to make it worth their time to get them to you in Belguim

Contacted cascade design. They told me to get in touch with cascade designs Ireland, seing that i live in Belgium (?). Contacted Cascade Ireland and they kindly said to send them the pad so they can fix it.

That looks like a dead end

Tell them you'd just like to buy the part and make the repair yourself because of the postal rates Postal rates shipping your pad back and forth would be your cost both ways. Them shipping the valve one way costs you less argue

Already mailed them back with just this argument. Curious what they'll say

Did you admit the large tear was not accidental? It would seem to make sence that they would be willing to sell a part... but that would make sence...

Yep, told them i cut a large one into two small ones. Also told them i've got 4 more pads from them and might start canibalizing them as well (ofcourse in the big scheme of things it's not even a drop in the ocean for them).

But they remain persistent, here my last mail from them :

"I 'm very sorry but we don't sell this item that's the only way I can help you. We will do the repair free of charge and pay the return postage."

I think it's rather funny. Protecting they're terf.

Just yesterday i scammed a total-loss pad from an outdoor shop. Cut of the valve, put it in boiling water to get the fabric from the part, fired up the good old clother iron, and presto, 2 small pads at my disposal.

Has anyone around here tried dismembering an insulated air pad. I've got a POE max thermo pad and thinking about shrinking that one too.

I figured the best way to get that specific part would be to cannibalize a destroyed pad. Glad it is working out.

One question, you might have already told us in another post, when you used the iron to seal, did you include any type of adhesive?

No additional glue. Just cut it, remove the foam, clean it (i used methanol, this was the closest at hand, maybe rubbing alcohol works too), put some baking paper on top and start ironing (as warm as possible).

Thinking about making 2 very small inflatable pad, and put them in high pressure zones on a closed cell foam pad. Any ideas on how to keep them in place ? Cutouts ?
